General Safety Advice

We, at Flexovit, take our responsibility towards customer safety very seriously. All Flexovit Merchandising cutting-off and grinding wheels conform to the highest European safety standard, EN 13236, which ensures that all products are manufactured and tested to the highest quality. All Flexovit Merchandising products are marked in accordance with the requirements of EN 13236. Please also help us by taking responsibility for your own safety, protecting yourself by following these two simple rules:

  1. Ensure your machine has its safety guard on.
  2. Follow the standard safety procedure. Always use eye and ear protection, gloves, and where necessary mouth protection, keeping them on at all times while power is switched on. Make sure you wear appropriate close fitting clothes.

The safety pictograms featured on the wheel will tell you how to get geared up for a safe cut..

Step 1: Selecting the Wheel

Make sure the wheel you have in hand is appropriate for the operation, checking that the diameter and bore are suitable for the machine being used, and the wheel can be used for the material being cut. Flexovit cutting-off and grinding wheels are divided into various material application groups, which can be easily recognised by the colour coding and corresponding application pictograms. The Flexovit Merchandising cutting-off wheels suitable for Steel/Inox and Steel all feature the following icons:

Steel / Inox

Steel

Both of these are clearly communicated. Have a close look at the label of the wheel for all information you might need in terms of specification.

When all is checked, then you are ready to go to step 2!

Step 2: Mounting the Wheel

Only mount the wheel on a machine designed for the operation. Never use force when mounting the wheel.

To ensure a safe cutting operation, always check the machine flanges: they must be undamaged, clean and have equal diameter. Make sure the wheel is firmly secured in-between the flanges, being careful not to over tighten it.

All Flexovit Merchandising cutting-off wheels from 100mm up to 230mm are designed for use with electric handheld machines. Large diameters can be used for chop saws, petrol saws and stationary machines, this is indicated by a clear icon on the wheel. Click here for the machine guide.

Step 3: Cutting the Material

Before cutting, ensure the material to be cut is safely secured in order to avoid any movement or vibration during operation. Once the material is securely in place cutting can begin.

Always start cutting in a straight line, at ninety degrees to the workpiece, applying only light pressure, keeping the cut positioning constant. Applying too much pressure may reduce the speed of rotation which affects the quality of cut and damages the wheel and the material. Ultra thin wheels of 1,0mm, 1,6mm or 1,9mm can be applied on massive material, by swinging the machine slightly forward and backward the cut will be made easiest and quickest. This way a longer life and a good cut quality will always be achieved. Never give the wheel side pressure as this will cause wheel breakage and is dangerous.

Following these simple tips will help you cut through in safety and comfort.
